Round 8 WAFLW Preview v West Perth

Swan Districts will be looking to continue its dominance in the WAFLW over West Perth at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday with the chance to move up to third position on the ladder with a victory.

Swans have dominated the Falcons over the past two years in the WAFLW, but coming into Saturday's match up at Steel Blue Oval and it's the fourth placed Swan Districts hosting the third placed West Perth.

That sets the stage for a tantalising match up with the winner to finish Round 8 of the season likely in third position on the ladder while the loser will either be clinging to a spot in the top four, or just slip outside depending on other results across the weekend.

The two teams have played four times so far over the past two seasons in the WAFLW competition with Swan Districts winning all four of those meetings.

It has been a dominant four-game run for Swans over the Falcons as well with the average winning margin of 60.1 points with them outscoring West Perth 45.34 (304) to 8.13 (61) across those four meetings.

Swan Districts has kicked at least 10 goals in each of those wins against West Perth with the Falcons having only kicked eight goals in total, and no more three in any of the match ups.

However, all signs point to a significantly more competitive contest this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval.

Swan Districts comes into the Round 8 match up in fourth position on the WAFLW ladder with a 3-3 record and needing to bounce back from last week's loss to South Fremantle to maintain a place in the top four by the end of Round 8.

Meanwhile, West Perth currently sits in third position with a 4-2 record having won its opening four matches of the season but now having lost its past two games to Claremont and East Fremantle by a combined 76 points.

From the Swan Districts team that lost by 14 points to South Fremantle last week, there are two changes coming into this Saturday match up with West Perth.

Luka Davis and Keira Kennedy come into the team for Swans while going out are Kelly Polla and Ava Stewart.

West Perth has made just the one change from its team that lost by 36 points to East Fremantle last week with Matilda Bain into the team with Samara Sallie going out for the Falcons.

The action on Saturday will get underway at Steel Blue Oval with the Rogers Cup match up also between Swan Districts and West Perth.

It's a contest featuring two teams currently occupying a top four position with Swans currently sitting in fourth place with a 4-2 record while the Falcons are the Rogers Cup reigning premiers and so far undefeated in 2024 following the opening six matches.

Swan Districts is coming off an 11-point loss to South Fremantle last week and from that team, Summer Ajduk, Javier Cornelius, Sienna Gerardi, Makaela Grau, Brianna North, Olivia Rasenberg and Ava Stewart all come into the line-up to play West Perth.

Going out for Swans are Luka Davis, Jorja Byrne, Alyssa Tremlett, Indyana Bird, Katica Borsic, Kaylee Myles and Larissa MacGregor.

West Perth beat Perth by 18 points last Sunday and from that team, Isabella Biddle, Olivia Ferguson, Tayah Nicholson, Amerie Ramsay-King, Samara Sallie, Lexie Strachan, McKayla Thomson, Elli van den Broeke and Lunay van den Heever are into the side.

Going out for the Falcons are Charlotte McFarland, Kyra Abbott, Emily McGinn, Shelby Dowsett, Molly Conroy, Aimee Norbury, Mia Haast, Sienna Hay and Ruby Freeman.
