Numerous teams from high schools within the Swans metropolitan and country districts have been enjoying competing against each other during second term in an effort to win the coveted Smarter Than Smoking Cup. This is a school competition for Year 8’s and 9’splayed across all districts in Western Australia.

The district final was held on Wednesday 28th July at Rushton Park, Mandurah, the home of Peel Thunder, between Guildford Grammar School and Bunbury Cathedral College.
Bunbury College started with intensity by kicking the first few goals and dominating early. This didn’t last too long though with the Guildford boys eventually firing up and answering with some quick goals of their own. They maintained this momentum and ended up winning the game, with the help of some very accurate kicking and strong marking, by 30 points.
The scoreboard did not reflect the intensity of the match. It was a hard fought battle and overall the skills on display were fantastic. It is a credit to both teams, and to Roebourne Senior High School, and their coaches for their efforts throughout the entire competition to become the champions of their districts.
