Junior Girls Up & Running!

Friday night 21st saw Swan Districts Football Club proudly host the first night of the inaugural district Junior Girls Competition on Steele Blue Oval.  The competition is for female players aged between 8 & 12.

The lights were on, the stereo turned up and the scene was set for a great night.  There were some familiar faces from the Dockers Cup competition at Steele Blue 2 days prior, great to see such enthusiasm.  Approximately 40 keen young girls were divided into 4 teams, and each given jumpers and a coach for the night.  The girls had fun devising team names; for example one team called themselves the ‘Dogs’ and decided their team song would be ‘Who Let the Dogs Out?’.

Right from the first bouncedown the competition was on.  Whether or not the girls had played before was irrelevant, their enthusiasm and ‘go hard’ attitude was inspiring.  There were some awesome skills on show, swift handballing, strong overhead marks and long kicks were all demonstrated, along with some clever bouncing and kicking on the run by a handful of particularly skilled players.  Any knocks, minor cuts and bruises were brushed aside with no complaints – there are some gritty players out there boys!

Sadly a complete team from Coolbinia Primary School has a bus breakdown problem and didn’t arrive, but they’re sure to be pumped and ready for next week.

The development team at Swans are really looking forward to the remaining 6 weeks of great footy and lots of fun.  It’s not too late to register new players (and its free), just come along at 5pm on Friday.

Thanks to all the players, parents and the fabulous WAWFL umpires!
